US President Barack Obama begins official visit to Vietnam

(VOVworld)- US President Barack Obama on Monday begins his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang. On the evening of Sunday, President Obama’s aircraft touched down at Noi Bai International Airport with intensified security measures.

After the official welcoming ceremony on Monday, Mr. Obama hold talks with President Tran Dai Quang and both leaders chair a joint media conference. Later on, President Obama meets with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. He also meets separately with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

President Obama and Vietnamese top leaders discuss ways to boost the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership and cooperation in economics, people-to-people exchanges, human rights and other issues of mutual concerns.

On Tuesday, Mr. Obama will deliver statement about bilateral ties at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. In Ho Chi Minh city, he will visit Ngoc Hoang pagoda and meet with Vietnamese business people and youths. The US President will conclude his Vietnam visit on Wednesday and leave for Japan to attend the G7 expanded summit.
