US President signs bills to support protesters in Hong Kong
(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed two bills to support protesters in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China), despite Beijing's strong opposition.

The Hong Kong Democracy and Human Rights Act reaffirmed and revised the 1992 US-Hong Kong Policy Act, clarifying US policy on Hong Kong and assessing potential developments in Hong Kong. The new bill allows Washington to end special trade status with Hong Kong based on the State Department's annual review of whether Hong Kong maintains sufficient autonomy under the principle of "one country, two regimes" or not.
The other bill bans the export of American ammunition used by the Hong Kong police for crowd control, including tear gas and rubber bullets.
