US President’s annual State of the Union address focuses on domestic issues.
(VOVworld)- President Barrack Obama has delivered his State of the Union address with more efforts to boost economic recovery and offer American more opportunities. He appealed to Congress to approve a rise in the national minimum wage, currently $7.25 per hour to deal with income inequality. He urged the Congress to renovate immigration policy to legalize more than 11 million people now residing in the US . Declaring 2014 as a year of action, the President called for more stringent gun control, better healthcare program, public spending cut and the development of clean energy.
Regarding the US foreign policy, President Obama repeated his commitment to withdraw troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year and an early signing of a bilateral security pact with Afghanistan so that US troops could continue their training mission in the country. He considered the temporary agreement with Iran a positive step towards the end of Tehran ’s nuclear program, He committed to joining international effort in ending the civil war in Syria .
