US pushes for regional peace, stability
(VOVworld) - US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, who is currently visiting Beijing, said on Wednesday that a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) is in the interest of all parties involved. During a joint media conference with her Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on Wednesday morning, Clinton said that US-Sino relations are at a historic point and that cooperation between both countries would bring more benefits to the region than their unhealthy competition. Clinton also mentions territorial disputes in the East Sea: “Our interest is the maintenance of peace, stability and respect for international law, freedom of navigation and unimpeded lawful commerce. As for countries involved, we do believe it’s in everyone’s interest that China and ASEAN are engaged in a diplomatic process for a shared goal of a Code of Conduct.”
