(VOVworld) – US and Russian military officials and diplomats met in Geneva on Friday to discuss a stalled ceasefire in Syria. The meeting aims to pave the way for a broader meeting of members of the Syria support group.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia and the US are holding consultations at the expert level on issues that will be submitted for approval' to the broader international group.

But Maria said no time has yet been set for such a broader meeting. UN's Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura acknowledged that a proposed Feb 25 date for the resumption of stalled peace talks was no longer "realistically" possible. He said he hopes Russia and the US will soon agree on the time of the ceasefire in Syria.
