The meeting of US' partners in which the US did not directly participate were "a constructive and certainly welcome step," State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters. These indirect discussions were a first step toward reviving the nuclear deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The US has rejected Iran's demand that Washington make the first concession.
The meeting in Vienna was attended by senior officials representing China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, and the UK. A US representative participated online from a hotel near the meeting venue.
