US Secretary of State slams China for stealing US’s academic research, intellectual property
(VOVWORLD) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday slammed China for stealing academic research and intellectual property, using Chinese students studying in American colleges, The Hill reported.

During a speech at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Pompeo called China " the central threat of our time", and described efforts by Chinese security services to pressure and recruit Chinese academics and students as spies. According to Pompeo, China is targeting higher education institutions in the US in a way that threatens national security. Pompeo further alleged that China is targeting Chinese students studying in the US, pressuring or threatening their families in China to divulge information about democratic activists and dissidents.
Pompeo called for greater protections for Chinese students on US college campuses and vigilance against efforts to steal academic and research materials.
