Kerry is trying to get Isreal and Palestine to agree on a framework for extending direct peace talks beyond the April 29 deadline. Analysts said that this seems to be a very difficult task in the context of escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine after a recent statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Earlier, Netanyahu called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to recognize the Jewish state and give up the request of repatriating Palestinian refugees to Israel. Netanyahu’s statement has angered Palestine, which considered it an end to the Middle East peace process.
