(VOVworld) – The global terrorist threat has entered a “new phase,” where media-savvy Islamist extremists are successfully drawing lone wolf attackers to their cause, US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson warned Sunday.

In an interview with ABC News, Johnson said the Islamic State’s influence is spreading far beyond the battlegrounds of the Middle East. He said the IS now has the ability to reach into the US homeland and possibly inspire other terrorist groups, because of its effective use of social media and the Internet.
