US Senate backs new ambassador to Russia
(VOVWORLD) - The US Senate on Wednesday confirmed Lynne Tracy, President Joe Biden’s nominee to be ambassador to Russia, ending the position’s vacancy over the past 3 months due to escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

The Senate voted 93-2 in favor of her confirmation.
Ms. Tracy will be the first woman to serve in the role if Russia accepts her appointment. She has been the US ambassador to Armenia since 2019 and will replace John Sullivan who resigned in September for personal reasons.
Tracy has worked in four former Soviet Union republic: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.
