US to unilaterally resume sanctions on Iran
(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will unilaterally resume sanctions against Iran after the UN Security Council rejected a US proposal to extend the conventional weapons embargo, which will end in October.

President Trump said the US has foreseen this result and will take action next week.
The US has threatened to resume sanctions on Iran in an article of the nuclear treaty signed with Iran in 2015, from which the US withdrew in 2018.
President Trump’s statement is expected to be opposed by other UN Security Council members, according to whom the US has no authority to re-impose UN sanctions due to withdrawal from the Iran's nuclear agreement. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in June said that an arms embargo against Iran would facilitate Iran to harm maritime trade and regional economy and allow Iran to buy military technology.
European diplomats say the lifting of the embargo will have minimal impact on the balance of power in the region in the foreseeable future due to the lack of funding from Iran and the implementation of Europe’s arms ban against Iran.
