General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said there hasn’t been any plan of further strikes. With more than 100 missiles fired from ships and manned aircraft, the allies struck three of Syria’s main chemical weapons facilities. Dunford said Russia's forces in Syria had been warned through existing "deconfliction" channels that western planes would be in Syria, but that Washington had not revealed the target sites or timing in advance.

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Saturday denounced the airstrike against the capital of a sovereign government, trying for years to survive under terrorist aggression. Syria's capital was attacked just at the moment when it had a chance for a peaceful future, the ministry’s spokesperson noted. Yuri Shvytkin, a deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, urged for an emergency session of the UN General Assembly to condemn the action of the US and its allies. Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said the strike will lead to serious consequences.

Syria’s state news agency SANA said the aggression is a flagrant violation of international law and it is doomed to fail. It reported that the US also attacked several of the Syrian army's arms depots.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the same day that chemical attacks in Syria are intolerant. He decided to join the US and UK to strike chemical weapons facilities. He promised continued efforts at the UN to establish a mechanism to investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria. Earlier he had a phone conversion with British Prime Minister Theresa May, during which the two leaders agreed to work closely on retaliation against chemical attacks in Syria.
