The leader of the opposition force, the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, said that the talks would begin Thursday, but no information about the date and place of the talks had been revealed yet. This is the 4th meeting between President Nicolas Maduro’s government and the opposition since April 7. The two sides are believed to have gained initial achievements in stabilising the situation.
At earlier talks, Maduro emphasised efforts to seek peace, building a model for co-existence, finding a solution to current violence, and recognising the idea of the Bolivarian revolution, as followed by the late President Hugo Chavez. Although the opposition acknowledged that a modern society could not be governed by violence, its extremists were keen on pursuing a violent struggle and refused dialogue with the government.
