Venezuela: voters cast ballots for Constituent Assembly
(VOVWORLD) -Venezuelans voted on Sunday to elect a new Constitutional Assembly that President Nicolás Maduro claims will end Venezuela’s economic and political crisis by rewriting the constitution.

6,200 candidates ran for the 545-seat Assembly, which will revise the 1999 constitution according to the president’s proposal. Electoral officials said turnout was 41.5% but the opposition refused to recognize the election, saying 88% of voters abstained.
