(VOVWORLD) - Millions of Buddhists in Vietnam are celebrating Vesak Day 2022 on Sunday.

The festival, which falls on the full moon of the 4th lunar month, commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha.
Addressing a ceremony in HCM city, acting supreme patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Thich Tri Quang highlighted Lord Buddha’s teachings which aim to help people find peace and happiness.
In the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, Vesak Day 2022 was a low-key event to save money for charity work, according to Deputy Chief of the Executive Board of the provincial Buddhist Sangha Thich Quang Loc.
On 15 December 1999 the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 54/115, entitled 'International recognition of the Day of Vesak at United Nations Headquarters and other United Nations offices'.
The resolution internationally recognized the Day of Vesak to acknowledge the contributions that Lord Buddha and Buddhism have made for over two and a half millennia.
