During 4 weeks of sitting, the HRC discussed the rights of children, the disabled, as well as the right to food and adequate housing, among many other issues. The council also debated situations of human rights in countries like Myanmar, North Korea, Syria, South Sudan, and Iran, as well as measures to increase technical support for the Republic of Congo, Ukraine, and Mali.

Attending the session, the Vietnamese delegation was led by Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of Vietnam's Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva. Vietnam contributed contents to several resolutions adopted at the session and co-sponsored 3 resolutions on food, right to culture, and effects of foreign debt and other related international financial obligations of States on the full enjoyment of all human rights. Ambassador Duong Chi Dung delivered a speech at a debate on promoting and protecting human rights amid multilaterism, at a dialogue with UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, and in dialogues with Special Rapporteurs on right to food, human rights in Myanmar, and rights of the disabled.
