(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam will continue to actively cooperate in activities between the US and ASEAN countries, especially within the framework of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+).

Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defense General Phan Van Giang told the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Informal Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.
Minister Giang said he appreciated the United States’ commitment to support ASEAN’s central role and promote comprehensive cooperation with the region, especially in economics, trade, investment, science and technology. The US is currently the biggest foreign direct investor (FDI) in ASEAN.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin reviewed the results achieved since ASEAN and the US established a strategic partnership. He affirmed that the US attaches great importance to ADMM+ cooperation, an important cooperative mechanism in the regional security structure.
The ASEAN Defense Ministers said that the region is facing many traditional and non-traditional security challenges. With the principle of respecting ASEAN’s central role, ASEAN is ready to cooperate with the US and other partners to resolve these challenges.
