The summit highly valued India’s contributions to building an ASEAN Community. Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh said that the leaders agreed to raise ASEAN-India relations to a strategic partnership level, and adopted the Vision Statement of the summit to orient their ties in all fields. The Deputy Minister highlights India and ASEAN’s commitment to raise two-way trade turnover revenue to 100 billion dollars by 2015:“ASEAN and India’s finalization of free trade agreements in service and investment will pave the way for an early setting up of a comprehensive free trade area covering the movement of goods, services and investment activities. This will mobilize the strength of a market with 1.8 billion people and 3.8 trillion dollars of GDP value. Both will promote India and Mekong connectivity projects and accelerate the building of a high speed road linking India, Myanmar and Thailand, followed by routes in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam”
On Vietnam-India relations, both agreed to continue advancing relations in all areas, especially in the five key pillars. These include close ties and trust in bilateral political relations to raise economic cooperation and increase two-way trade to 7 billion USD in 2015, security and defence, science and technology, culture, education and training.
