(VOVworld) – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Cuong heads a Vietnamese delegation attending the UN Human Rights Council’s 28^th session, which opened in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday.

Besides the top-level meeting, working sessions will be held during the opening week focused on human rights in relation to UN activities, climate change, and capital punishment. In the following weeks, the Council will consider 90 reports by UN human rights mechanisms. Five meetings will be held to examine the rights of children and people with disabilities, racial discrimination, the building of national policies, and technical cooperation. 40 draft resolutions on various human rights issues will be introduced during the session. Vietnam is a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 tenure and has been re-elected as co-coordinator of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
