Addressing a UN Security Council meeting on Monday, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, asked all parties to cooperate with Special Envoy Hans Grundberg, respect international humanitarian law, and implement Resolution 2573.
The resolution calls for protecting civilian infrastructure, supporting UNICEF’s appeal to respect children’s right to get an education, and cooperating to achieve a sustainable and inclusive peace in Yemen.
The UN Security Council also discussed the situation in Haiti following an August 14 earthquake that killed 2,200, injured 12,000, and displaced 8,000 others. Quy offered condolences to Haiti in this difficult time, and said the top priority right now is to increase humanitarian relief and ensure security for the devastated areas. He called on the international community to increase assistance to Haiti.
