Vietnam, China issue joint statement on President Xi’s visit
(VOVWORLD) -The successful state visit to Vietnam by Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping has contributed remarkably to strengthening traditional friendship and deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries, according a joint statement issued on Monday.

The statement said that during his visit on Sunday and Monday, Mr. Xi held talks with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang and met Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. Both sides agreed on the importance of deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China.
They agreed to fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, accelerate consultation to soon achieve the Code of Conduct in the East Sea, control maritime differences, avoid actions that complicate disputes, and maintain peace and stability in the region. Both countries will continue coordination at multilateral forums such as the UN, the WTO, APEC and ASEAN and join hands to help maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the world.
The Vietnamese leaders reiterated the country’s support for the “One China” policy and cross-strait efforts for peace and China’s unification. Vietnam opposes an independent Taiwan in any form and will never establish any official relationship with Taiwan, the joint statement said.
