(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense on Friday held the 15th Meeting of the Experts' Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations (EWG PKO) Cycle 4 for the 2021-2023 period, within the framework of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).

Head of the Japanese Peacekeeping Experts Group Tomoko Matsuzawa told the meeting that discussion focuses on training and capacity building for the peacekeeping force to help them to avoid life-threatening risks when performing missions and ensure the reputation of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the host country.
Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Head of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Expert Group, said pre-deployment training and capacity building are paramount to meet the requirements United Nations peacekeeping mission. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, this work is even more important and challenging for countries that contribute troops to the force, he said.
Vietnam is taking on the dual role of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and together with Japan co-chairing Experts' Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations.
