The statement was released at a two-day conference which opened in Hanoi on Wednesday with representatives including those from the World Health Organization and the US Embassy. Vietnam’s efforts to control Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and prevent the spread of avian flu and HIV/AIDS were highlighted at the meeting. Vietnam has had to set up a system to monitor large-scale epidemic diseases. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat underlined the need to identify the main factors causing emerging infectious diseases and acknowledged effective cooperation and support by international partners and organizations.
