Vietnam committed to promoting gender equality
(VOVworld)- The 26th session of the UN Human Rights Council has over the past few days discussed reports on education rights, discrimination against women, women’s rights and sustainable development and the elimination of those customs that hurt women in Africa. In his address, Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN, shared Vietnam’s experience in implementing the UN Millennium Development Goals including those on gender equality. He said gender equality has been included in socio-economic development programs and that in Vietnam the rate of women’s participation in the National Assembly, People’s Councils and state agencies was relatively high. The Ambassador expressed his hope that learning from the experiences of Vietnam, other countries could map out their plans to include greater women’s participation in sustainable development programs.
