In an interview with the media on the occasion of the 40^th anniversary of Vietnam’s accession to the UN (1977-2017), President Quang said Vietnam and the UN have enjoyed good relations and gained practical results over the past 4 decades. Being an active member of the international community, Vietnam considers its cooperation with the UN a top priority of its external policy, President Quang said, stressing that Vietnam will deepen its cooperation with the UN and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and the world. He added that Vietnam and other UN members will uphold fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international laws, boost friendship and cooperation among countries, and ensure legitimate interests of all countries. Vietnam pledges to further participate in UN peace keeping missions, realize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change, and support efforts to reform the UN, Mr Quang noted.

Ambassador and Head of the Vietnamese misison to the UN Nguyen Phuong Nga told VOV’s correspondent in the US that Vietnam is a role model of successful cooperation between the UN and a member country.

“Vietnam is already a responsible member of the UN and it intends to be even more active in UN activities, including the UN peace keeping activities, climate change response, green growth, and UN organizational reform. In the meantime, Vietnam wants to be elected to the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 term to further promote its role and prestige in the international arena,” Nga said.
