(VOVworld)-Secretary General Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations continued sending a diplomatic note to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon.

Ambassador Trung emphasized that China’s deployment of escort ships to guard the oil rig placed illegally in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf violates international law, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to which both are signatories. Vietnam has tried to hold dialogue with China although Beijing rejected the goodwill proposal and reposition its oil rig and escort ships in Vietnam’s waters. The note repeated Vietnam’s legitimate call for China to immediately withdraw its oil rig and escort ships unconditionally from Vietnam’s waters.
