Vietnam joined AIPA in 1995 and since then, the Vietnamese legislature has made significant contributions to the organization, the site reported. The National Assembly of Vietnam has taken the initiative to organise activities for AIPA in appropriate forms due to COVID-19. Vietnam aims to raise two initiatives during AIPA 41. The first is to set up a young parliamentarians’ conference to promote the role of youths.
The second is to connect AIPA’s activities with those of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the implementation of the UN’s 2030 agenda on sustainable development.
Vietnam National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan proposed further strengthening of substantive cooperation between AIPA and ASEAN. She says it is important to promote partnerships in regional connectivity, and enhancing the capacity of ASEAN countries to deal with non-traditional security issues. They include ratification of regional agreements on enhancing cooperation to build policies for developing the circular economy, renewable energy, and innovation, towards proactively adapting to the fourth Industrial Revolution.
