(VOVWORLD) - The first doses in the COVAX program will reach Vietnam in the first quarter of this year if favorable, said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on Friday.
Deputy Prime Minister Dam met in Hanoi on Friday Chief Representatives of the UN Development Program (UNDP), the UN Children Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Vietnam.
The guests appreciated what Vietnam has done in fighting the COVID-19 over the past year and the latest outbreaks. As the epidemic has been under control in Hanoi, adjacent localities, and across Vietnam, locals can welcome a safe Lunar New Year, they said.
Thanking the international organisations, Deputy Prime Minister said they are all actively working with the Ministry of Health to prepare an injection plan, as required by COVAX.
COVAX initiated by the WHO has been joined by 184 countries, was created to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and guarantee fair and equitable access to the vaccines for every country in the world.
WHO hopes to distribute 2 billion doses of a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of 2021 under its COVAX mechanism.
