(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has stressed the need to implement a proactive, flexible, timely and effective policies in response to any situation while chairing the Government meeting on Thursday following the US announcement of imposing reciprocal tariffs on goods imported from many countries, including Vietnam.

Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam hopes that the US will adopt a policy that aligns with the good relationship between the two countries, meets the desires of their people and the efforts that Vietnam has made in recent years, and aligns with the conditions and circumstances of Vietnam as a developing country still recovering from the heavy and prolonged consequences of the wars.
He requested ministries and sectors to remain calm, confident, and proactive, with flexible, timely, and effective responses to any developments.
The Prime Minister said: "We must be prepared to adapt to the situation and endure challenges that may arise unexpectedly. The new tariffs will obstruct our largest export market. We have no other ways but to diversify the markets, products and supply chains while swiftly addressing numerous challenges."

Prime Minister Chinh ordered the immediate establishment of a rapid response team led by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son; and tasked Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc with directing ministries and sectors to listen to opinions of businesses.
He said this is also an opportunity to affirm the resilience and strength of the nation; to restructure the economy towards rapid but sustainable development, green growth, and digital transformation based on science, technology, and innovation; to promote the building of an independent and self-reliant economy associated with profound, practical, and effective international integration; and to expand and diversify markets, products, and supply chains.
The government leader emphasized that the goal of achieving a GDP growth rate of at least 8% this year assigned by the National Assembly remains unchanged.
