At the first meeting of the political affairs sub-committee of the Joint Committee under the EU-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in Hanoi on Monday, Mr. Dung called for early implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and appealed to the EU to remove the “yellow card” warning on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) it levied on Vietnam. Mr. Dung co-chaired the meeting with Deputy Managing Director for Asia and Pacific of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Paola Pampaloni.

The same day, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, held a meeting with Ms. Pampaloni. During the meeting, Mr. Thanh expressed his hope that Vietnam and the EU will complete internal procedures as soon as possible to implement the EVFTA and the EVIPA on a large scale. He called on EU to support Vietnam in UN forums and strengthen connections between the EU and ASEAN. He said that Vietnam’s Public Security Ministry is ready to cooperate with the EU to share information and improve specialized ability.

Ms. Pampaloni pledged to work to bring cooperation between the EU and Vietnam to new heights.
