(VOVWORLD) -The Meet Europe 2018 conference opened in Hanoi on Friday which aims to enhance cooperation between Vietnamese localities and European partners. The event was co- organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Hanoi People’s Committee, and EuroCham Vietnam.

In his address, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Vietnam and the EU have recorded successful cooperative results in many sectors. EU partners have traveled together with Vietnam during its 30 years of renewal towards global integration. The EU is currently Vietnam’s biggest non-refundable aid provider and a major foreign direct investment source.
Mr Phuc said Vietnam and the EU are facing great opportunities to elevate bilateral ties. “Opportunities and cooperative potentials are not only from Vietnam, but also from your readiness and determination. The Vietnamese government appreciates the 2,000 EU businesses that invest in Vietnam. Vietnam has demand for capital, management, advanced technology for infrastructure, and airports, urban transportation, energy, petroleum, manufacturing, food processing, agriculture, tourism, and medicine. EU social organizations can engage in environmental protection, sustainable development, renewable energy, climate change prevention, smart city development, high-tech agriculture, sustainable tourism, and human resource training.”
The Prime Minister asked ministries, sectors, and localities to offer incentives and resolve obstacles for EU businesses.
Ambassador Bruno Angelet, Head of the EU delegation to the country said the Vietnam –EU Free Trade Agreement is scheduled to be signed by the end of this year. He added that the Meet Europe 2018 conference will help Vietnamese localities attract new investments. “Vietnam will join the premier league of major economies signing new free trade agreements with the EU. And that means in Asia, you’ll join the premier league of Korea, soon Japan, soon Singapore. Vietnam’s possibly joining by the end of the year will be in the top league not only in Asia but with many other economies joining the biggest world trade power on earth, which is the EU. The EU can bring the maximum of investment volume to Vietnam because it’ll be good for Vietnam.”
The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EuroCham Vietnam signed an MoU to help Vietnamese and EU companies enhance business.
