National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said gender equality is a basic right reflecting social development, therefore Vietnam has always exerted great efforts to build policies on human rights and gender equality. But there still remain some limitations. Ms. Phong asked the United Nations and representatives of international agencies on gender equality to share their experiences in realizing gender equality and increasing the number of female deputies in legislative bodies.

Pratibha Mehta, the UN’s Resident Coordinator in Vietnam acknowledged Vietnam’s efforts to implement gender equality and hoped that Vietnam will do more to realize the set goal.
