Vietnam expects to reach almost all development targets this year

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung chaired the government’s regular meeting for August over the last 2 days. Cabinet members said that over the last 8 months Vietnam has been able to maintain the stability of its macro-economy, control the consumer price index, interest and exchange rates, and import surpluses.

Vietnam expects to fulfill 13 of this year’s 14 development targets. Prime Minister Dung asked ministries and sectors to closely monitor domestic and international socio-economic scene in order to devise timely, effective, and accurate policies. He called for measures to improve the business and investment environment, boost investment disbursements, and implement social security programs in healthcare, education, poverty reduction, and job generation.

Mr. Dung said that Vietnam in 2016 should achieve an economic growth rate of 6.7% and an average rate of 6.7% to 7% over the next 5 years with macro-economic stability and sustainable growth. Cabinet members also discussed adjustments to land planning and use until 2020 and commented on a number of important draft laws.
