(VOVworld) – The National Target Program on New Rural Development reviewed its activities during the first half of the year on Tuesday.
During this period, approximately 2,000 communes were recognized as new-style rural areas, up 5% from 2015. 23 districts were recognized as new-style rural areas, 8 more than 2015. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said: “We’ll continue to help localities achieve their targets for 2016 towards fulfilling the program’s goals for the 2016-2020 period. Communes, particularly especially poor communes, should focus on building essential facilities, develop value chains to ensure food safety and adapt to climate change. There should be specific policies to improve the rural environment in a comprehensive way.”
Vietnam has mobilized approximately 13 billion USD to implement the National Target Program on New Rural Development.
