Vietnam, India hold 7th political consultation
(VOVworld) – On Monday, Vietnam and India held the 7th political consultation at the deputy foreign ministerial level and the 4th Vietnam-India Strategic Dialogue in Hanoi.
Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and his Indian counterpart Anil Wadhwa attended the event. The two sides agreed to boost delegate exchanges at all levels to create a firm political foundation and look at ways to reach bilateral trade turnover of 15 billion USD by 2020, as well as foster cooperation in politics, economics, defence, culture and education.
At the Strategic Dialogue, the diplomats discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. They agreed to promote cooperation at global and regional forums, especially at the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, the World Trade Organization, and ASEAN. India showed their support for Vietnam’s candidacy for membership of the UN Security Council in the 2020 - 2021 term. Regarding the East Sea issue, India supports Vietnam and ASEAN’s viewpoints of settling conflicts through peaceful means based on international law including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and soon adopting the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea. India will also continue cooperation in oil and gas exploration and exploitation in Vietnam’s territorial waters.
