Vietnam, India push for stronger strategic partnership

(VOVworld) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung leaves Hanoi for an official state visit to India from October 27-29 to tighten the traditional political relations and promote the strategic partnership between the two countries.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit is also designed to further develop cooperation in defense, economics, trade and investment.

As part of the visit, the two Prime Ministers will discuss ways to raise bilateral trade from the current rate of 8 billion USD to 15 billion USD by 2020. They will touch upon solutions to diversify input material supply resources for Vietnam’s industries.

In a recent visit to Vietnam by the Indian President, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding under which India will grant Vietnam a credit worth 100 million USD. Vietnam’s major exports to India include components, chemicals, wood and timber products, iron and steel, coal, agricultural products, vehicles and spare parts, garments and footwear.

In terms of cultural and educational cooperation, India is helping Vietnam with the training of high quality human resources in the fields of information technology, economics, law and English teaching. Regular cultural exchange programs have enhanced mutual understanding between the two peoples. India is accelerating the early opening of an Indian Cultural Centre in Hanoi.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung and cabinet members of Indian new government will discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern and reach consensus on measures to boost the bilateral ties towards maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in Asia.
