National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Puan Maharani were speaking during a joint press conference after talks in Jakarta.
The Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership has grown in both scope and scale, contributing to a dynamic, inclusive, sustainable, and law-based regional architecture, said Chairman Hue, adding that there is ample reason for cooperation between the two countries.
"We can’t predict how the world will be by 2045, when Vietnam and Indonesia celebrate 100 years of their foundation, but we are certain that the two have the will, aspiration, and determination to join force to become strong and prosperous nations,” he noted.
During earlier talks, the leaders agreed to work harder to bring two-way trade to 15 billion USD in the coming time.
Chairman Hue asked Indonesia to open its market to Vietnamese farm produce and encourage Vietnamese enterprises to operate in Indonesia.
The leaders agreed to increase cooperation in business, investment, culture and fisheries and accelerate the settlement of issues relating to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
They reiterated the importance of peace stability, safety, security and freedom of navigation in the East Sea and pledged coordination in maintaining ASEAN’s solidarity and common stance on the East Sea issue.
