Vietnam is resolved to eliminate IUU fishing, says Deputy PM
(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has been doing its utmost to ensure responsible, sustainable, and controlled fishing and is determined to eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh told a European Commission inspection delegation in Hanoi on Friday.

He said Vietnam encourages environment friendly fishing and is working hard to preserve marine resources.
The Deputy PM asked on the EC and EU member states to continue closely working with and providing timely technical assistance for Vietnam to implement EC recommendations on combating IUU fishing.
He urged the EC to recognise Vietnam’s efforts and lift the “yellow card” warning for the country.
The EC delegation applauded Vietnam’s efforts to engage the entire political system in drastic and methodological measures to fight IUU fishing.
They noted that through random examination of coastal localities, they have seen considerable progress and improvements in anti-IUU fishing actions, including boosting information transparency and improving capacity for fisheries management personnel in 28 coastal localities.
The delegation is set to make another examination and assessment trip to Vietnam in the next six months.
