Vietnam, Japan hold defense consultation
(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam and Japan on Friday agreed to improve effectiveness of their defense cooperation, focusing on exchanging delegations, enhancing cooperative mechanisms, especially the deputy minister level defense policy dialogue, cooperation in UN peacekeeping missions, cyber security, search and rescue, and recovery from war.

At a working-level consultative meeting in Tokyo on Friday, the Vietnamese delegates informed of its agenda and activities for the ASEAN Year 2020 when Vietnam assumes ASEAN Chair and is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The Japanese side expressed the belief that Vietnam with its thorough preparations and capacity will successfully organize important events of this year.
On Friday, Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh held talks with his Japanese counterpart Nishida Yasunori and paid a courtesy call on Defense Minister Taro Kono.
