(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Laos have agreed to open up important new development directions, said President Nguyen Xuan Phuc at a banquette on Monday hosted by Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith.

Mr. Phuc said that in the context of international integration, a deep, faithful, and enduring bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Laos is of great significance. Despite differences in languages, culture and customs, Vietnam and Laos share common goals for the future, he added.
President Phuc said the Party, State and people of Vietnam will join with Laos to preserve and promote the special solidarity between the two countries, for the happiness and prosperity of the two peoples.
The same day, President Phuc met with former Lao Party and State leaders who said the younger generations should be educated about the tradition of special relations between Vietnam and Laos.
