Vietnam makes clear political commitments to UN peace keeping operations
(VOVWORLD) -A high-ranking delegation led by Sen. Lieut. Gen. Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army attended a UN meeting on peace keeping mission in New York this week.

The biennial meeting reviews previous activities and outlines orientations for the next 2 years.
In his opening address, UN Under-Secretary-General Jean Pierre Lacroix praised contribution by participating countries, including Vietnam, to maintaining peace, overcoming war aftermaths, delivering humanitarian aids for refugees, and environmental protection. He called for stronger determination from member countries to deal with pending issues. Delegates applauded efforts of countries which have recently taken part in peace keeping mission. Vietnam was acknowledged for its clear political commitments and concrete steps in its peace keeping roadmap.
During his stay in New York, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Pham Ngoc Minh had sideline working sessions with representatives from other countries, including the UK. During a meeting with General Chris Deverell, commander of the UK’s Joint Forces Command, both sides discussed ways to take over level 2 field hospital in Bentiu, South Sudan, and plans to send British experts to Vietnam for capacity building and English teaching.
