Vietnam makes history at FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup

(VOVWORLD) -Underdog Vietnam outplayed World No. 13 Belgium in a play-off game on Sunday, winning a bronze medal at the 2024 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup in the Philippines.

Although Belgium ranked 21 places higher than Vietnam, the Vietnamese team played resiliently throughout the four sets of the match. Despite losing the second set, the Vietnamese girls kept up their morale, attacked fiercely, and finished 3-1.

Vietnam gained 6.3 points in the world rankings and advanced two places to 32nd in the world, the highest ranking in the history of Vietnamese women's volleyball.

The 2024 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup took place from Wednesday to Sunday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila. Eight teams competed: the Philippines, Vietnam, Puerto Rico, Kenya, Belgium, Sweden, Czech Republic, and Argentina.
