Vietnam marks 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day
(VOVWORLD) -A ceremony to pay tribute to Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who laid down their lives in Laos was held on Saturday night in the Vietnam-Laos cemetery, where 11,000 Vietnamese military servicemen and revolutionary contributors rest in peace.

This was part of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day July 27. Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue addressed the event: “Sacrifices of Vietnamese and Lao soldiers, experts, and people have become a legend and a noble symbol of the two countries’ special solidarity and alliance. This sentiment has been a priceless asset of the two nations as President Ho Chi Minh said “Vietnam-Lao bonding is as deep as the water level of the Red and Mekong rivers.”

Secretary of the Nghe An provincial Party Committee Nguyen Dac Vinh recalled the glorious past of the nation: “The program conveys the current generation’s gratitude to their predecessors who died for national independence and freedom and for international revolutionary cause. Through the program, the young generation vow to live, study, work, and contribute to the fatherland to deserve sacrifices of the predecessors and to cultivate the friendship and loyalty of the two nations and Parties.”
The same day, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue paid incense tribute to the martyrs at Dong Loc crossroad historical relic site.
The Vietnam Buddhist Shangha in Son La province hosted a requiem for heroic martyrs, who laid down their for national liberation.
On this occasion, there will be 18 programs nationwide including a national ceremony on July 27, a conference to honor those who render great services to the nation and an incense burning and candle light ceremony on July 26, and a live TV program which connects Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Quang Tri, and Thai Nguyen on July 26.
