Vietnam, Myanmar bolster all-round cooperation

(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Myanmar Foreign Minister U Wunna Lwin co-chaired the 8th session of the Vietnam-Myanmar joint committee in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday. The two sides agreed to foster cooperation with a goal of raising two-way trade to half a billion USD this year. Myanmar praised the practicality of Vietnamese investment projects and is considering licensing the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam to open a branch in Myanmar, which will facilitate investment and trade between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to work closely together at multilateral forums and cooperate with other ASEAN members in establishing the ASEAN Community by the end of this year. Myanmar insisted that parties involved in East Sea conflicts should settle their disputes peacefully in line with international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the imminent Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
