During a UN Security Council teleconference on Wednesday, Mr. Quy welcomed the South Sudanese government’s role in brokering peace with neighboring Sudan. He said its efforts have been very encouraging, even though South Sudan has been challenged by COVID-19, flooding, and food shortages. He noted that the ceasefire has been honored, and called on the government to adopt effective solutions to end violence in local communities.
Mr. Quy underscored the importance of fully implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan before UN sanctions are reviewed in December, and said Vietnam will continue to contribute to the UN Mission in South Sudan.
