National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai made the statement in his keynote speech on Friday in the Philippines at the first plenary session of the 31st Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF‑31).
He noted that the Vietnamese National Assembly is committed to uniting with the APPF and its member parliaments in promoting their law‑making and supervisory role.
Vice Chairman Hai said that Vietnam will coordinate with other Asia‑Pacific members to maintain peace, stability, and global economic connection and recovery, pledging to uphold the region’s pioneering role in economic development.
“First, countries need to continue to maintain strong political commitments to promote multilateral ties, inter-parliamentary co‑operation, enhanced dialogue, information sharing, and experience in parliamentary operations,” said Mr. Hai.
Second, it’s necessary to ramp up parliamentary co‑operation in the region through strengthening ties and collaboration mechanisms and networks such as the APPF.
Third, it’s imperative for governmental assemblies to improve the professional capacity of parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace and stability.
“Finally, APPF member parliaments need to prioritize resources for sustainable and inclusive development goals, thereby creating a foundation for peace and stability in the region and the world.”
