Mr. Phuc said Vietnam being elected as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the second time in 10 years means the international community’s acknowledgement of Vietnam’s reforms and integration and their trust and expectations for the country’s responsible contribution to peace and security  in the region and the wider world in the years to come.

Vietnam’s non-permanent seat on the UNSC, which earned a record high number of votes of the UN General Assembly members, is very significant, confirming the correctness of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s foreign policy, under which Vietnam proactively participates in and promotes its role at the multilateral mechanisms, especially ASEAN and UN to contribute to maintaining peace and stability for national development. Vietnam wants to show that it is a responsible member and contributor to building a world order of peace, fairness, democracy, and advancement. This is also an opportunity for the country to raise its stature and prestige globally, Prime Minister Phuc said. As Vietnam will also assume the Chairmanship of ASEAN next year, Prime Minister Phuc said he believes that Vietnam with experiences gained from its previous UNSC membership in 2008 and 2009, is ready and try its best to fulfill the task as a non-permanent member of the UNSC in the next 2 years. It will strive to truly become “a partner for sustainable peace” and hopes to receive support, assistance, and cooperation from UN and UNSC member countries, to jointly work for a green planet.
