Vietnam ready to contribute to lasting peace on Korean peninsula
(VOVWORLD) -If the 1st US-DPRK summit was an icebreaker and an opportunity for both sides to affirm their viewpoints and principles, the 2nd summit in Hanoi next week will map out specific directions, according to Duong Chinh Thuc, former Vietnamese Ambassador to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

The diplomat said Pyongyang and Washington have made certain agreements at the meeting between Vice Chairman of the DPRK Workers’ Party Kim Yong-chol and US President Donald Trump, the talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during Mr. Kim Yong-chol’s visit to the US in mid January, as well as the talks in Stockholm between Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and US Special Representative for DPRK Stephen Biegun. Parties involved have applauded the results of their talks and been optimistic about certain steps forward to be taken.
Ambassador Duong Chinh Thuc lived in the DPRK for a long time and considered it his 2nd homeland. He said national reunification is an unshakable aspiration of the Koreans, but first of all they need a lasting peace to fully focus on socio-economic development.
