Vietnam reaffirms indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa
|
(VOVworld)-Foreign Ministry spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi has reiterated Vietnam’s undeniable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos. Mr. Nghi was responding to China’s media reports on some Chinese activities in the East Sea since yearly this year, including the Chinese Transport Minister’s visit to Hoang Sa to inspect the Haixun ship and a trip by the Chief of China’s State General Administration of Sports to Phu Lam island, which is part of Hoang Sa. The Chinese press also reported on China’s plans to build some fishery facilities on Phu Lam island as well as a pier and fishing service facilities on Truong Sa. The Vietnamese spokesperson emphasized that any activities conducted in the 2 archipelagos without Vietnam’s consent are a gross violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty, complicate the situation and fuel tension in the East Sea, and run counter to signed agreements between the 2 countries. These acts also go against the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and commitments to maintain peace and stability in the sea. Vietnam demands that China immediately end such activities, abandon projects that breach Vietnam’s sovereignty and fully honor the DOC.
