Discussing maritime security, the two agreed to honor the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and work for the early completion of a substantive and effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
Mr. Giang said Vietnam consistently addresses maritime disagreements through peaceful measures in accordance with international law and the 1982 UNCLOS.
Giang asked Lee and his ministry to call on other RoK ministries, agencies, and organizations, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), to continue coordinating with and assisting Vietnam in war consequence settlement, post-war dioxin remediation, and support for UXO and AO/dioxin victims.
The two agreed to continue mutual consultation and support at multilateral forums, particularly the mechanisms led by ASEAN, and support each other’s multilateral activities.
At the end of their talks, the ministers witnessed the exchange of terms of reference between their navies, which is the basis for strengthening naval cooperation.
